William H. Robinson – Chairman of the Trust
Bill joined the Trust in 1995 and became its Chairman in August 1999. Educated at Weymouth Grammar School, Bill went on to join the Police Force in 1964. During his career in the Police he was Secretary of ‘B’ Division ABC; Competition Secretary for the Metropolitan Police ABC and Winner of the Lafone Cup 1967. He left the police in 1977.
Bill has been Managing Director of a publishing company since 1980 dealing with Business Publications. He was also President of the London ABA from 1980-1983; President of the South West Division of the London ABA from 1979-1982; Member of the ABA Council 1975-1990; Secretary of Kingston ABC 1977-1990; Trustee of Fitzroy Lodge ABC. Bill was also the Manager of England Amateur Boxing Team to Kenya 1978.
Keith Walters OBE – Trustee
A lifelong volunteer in Amateur Boxing and community sport, Keith has participated in numerous roles in and for the Sport throughout his 55 years of involvement in supporting Clubs, Divisions, Regions and the National Governing Body and is totally committed to the Amateur Boxing Association of England and the youth of England and Great Britain.
He was elected to the London ABA Executive Committee in 1978 and has also served as President of the Association. In 1995 he was elected as the London ABA Honorary Secretary and for the last 21 years has served the boxers, coaches, officials and clubs, managing the London Region to unprecedented success.
Throughout this period he has also served on the executive committee of the Amateur Boxing Association of England and from 2004-13 he was the Chairman of the organisation, overseeing a period which has seen the ABAE move rapidly from an under- performing organisation into one of the fastest growing and performance driven sports in the country. He has also served on numerous working parties, planning groups and as a Board and Council member of the ABAE, and led a massive change management project. He is currently President of the organisation.
For the last 10 years, he has been a trustee of the London Youth and Recreational Trust and in 2008 was appointed a Trustee of the Central Social and Recreational Trust.
In 2013, he was awarded the Order of the British Empire medal, in recognition of his services to amateur boxing in the United Kingdom.
Luigi Leo – Trustee
Luigi has worked for the Ministry of Justice for 33 years in a variety of different roles and is currently working in Her Majesty’s Court’s and Tribunals Service as the London Regional Governance Officer, responsible for Risk Management, Governance, Compliance and Assurance. He is also a qualified and accredited Fraud Investigator.
He is a UEFA B qualified football coach and in 1982 set up and continues to run a Soccer School in Islington. He also runs a youth club in Kingsbury and is a coach at the Hoddesdon Boxing Academy.
As an active amateur boxer, Luigi boxed for the Fitzroy Lodge ABC in the 1980’s.winning the SE London Divisional ABAE Novice Championships and SE London Divisional ABAE Championships. He was also club captain and captained the London ABA Boxing team. He was honoured to captain a representative England Team at the Stockholm Box Open Championships in Sweden in 1990.
From 2002 until 2010, Luigi ran the Trojan ABC and was appointed the Barbados Boxing Coach for the Commonwealth Games, Kuala Lumpar, 1998; the Barbados Boxing Team Manager at the AIBA World Boxing Championships in Houston 1999 and ABAE England Team Manager from 2002 to 2007.
Luigi sat on the London ABA Council and the North West London ABA; was appointed to the Board of the Schools Amateur Boxing Association, (SABA), in 2007 and in 2013 was appointed a Director of England Boxing Limited
Darren Chapple – Trustee
Darren has recently retired from the Royal Air Force having completed 34 years of service. An Engineer and Communications specialist, responsible for Risk Management, Quality Assurance and Airworthiness authority across multiple levels; extensive skills in Leadership and Management saw him awarded with two Fellowships in 2015. His entire military career has been dedicated to the sport of Boxing. He has participated and served within numerous roles of the sport for the RAF and Combined Services. Upon leaving the Military, Darren set-up his own Property Management company in Cornwall.
Since 2007, he has been an England Boxing International Team Manager, representing the sport throughout all levels including, GBs, European, World and Commonwealth levels. He has served on the Executive Committee to the old Amateur Boxing Association of England as Council and Board member and, currently sits as a Board Director to England Boxing, the sports National Governing body of Boxing.
Primarily Director lead for Performance and Talent of all international elite competition, his other roles on the Board of England Boxing include: Deputy Chair to the Audit Committee, Director Lead for the GB Talent Commission. He also acts as the Boards Risk Lead, managing its extensive Risk Management Process.
In 2018, Darren represented Team England at the 21st Commonwealth Games, leading the Boxing Team to an historical medal haul, beating the Melbourne 2006 record. The team accumulated a huge Six Gold, One Silver and Two Bronze Medals.
Secretary to the Trust
Beverley Gold was appointed as Secretary to the Trust in February 2003 succeeding Joe Lewis who had held the role since 1993. Her role with the Trust is to deal with all applications for grants and to ensure their eligibility and to process them for the information of the Trustees. She also deals with the Minutes and with the disbursement of grants after they have been approved by the Trustees.
